Achilleas Zavallis is a journalist and photographer based in Nicosia. He focuses have on conflict and post-conflict issues. From 2005 to 2011, he was based in Greece, documenting the economic crisis. He shifted his attention to the Middle East in 2012 to document the war in Syria, and continues to follow the story and its ramifications across the region. In 2015, he began documenting the Balkan Migration route, and in 2016 he relocated to Iraq to document the war against ISIS, focusing on the military operations to retake Raqqa and Mosul. He continues to document the circles of violence in the Middle East and the integration of refugees and asylum seekers in Europe. He is a contributor to Agence France-Presse, Médecins Sans Frontières, UNHCR, and a variety of international publications, including The Guardian, Libération, The National, Vice News, The Telegraph, dS Weekblad, L’ Espresso, Le Nouvel Observateur, Foreign Policy, Time LightBox, The New York Times, The Washington Post, Internazionale, and Al Jazeera.
